Michael Jackson's doctor found guilty

Michael Jackson's personal doctor was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the singer's death following a six-week trial that captivated Jackson fans around the world.

Dr Conrad Murray had pleaded not guilty to giving the singer a fatal dose of the powerful anesthetic propofol, which was ruled as the main cause of the pop star's June 25, 2009 death.

Al Jazeera's John Terrett reports from Washington.

According to a Telegraph report, Dr. Conrad Murray was born in St Andrews, Grenada on Feb 19, 1953, and lived there until the age of seven.

He then moved to Trinidad and Tobago where he grew up to work as a teacher, customs clerk and insurance underwriter.

In 1980 he went to join his father, who had become a doctor in Houston, Texas and began studying medicine to follow in his footsteps.

He completed an undergraduate degree at Texas Southern University in Houston, and then went on to Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee.

Murray went on to train in cardiology at the universities of Arizona and San Diego, during which time he failed to pay his tax.

In the late 1990s he fathered a child with a married nurse who worked at the same San Diego hospital and he subsequently faced child maintenance demands.

He then moved to Las Vegas and in 2000 founded Global Cardiovascular Associates, opening a second clinic in a poor area of Houston where he helped patients with little money.
